2012 - The Year of the Foundation

I'm pretty sure everyone is constantly on the search for that one Holy Grail item. For me, 2012 became the year of the foundation. I'm still currently on the search for 'The One'.

I started off the year wearing No7 Stay Perfect Foundation. At £14 it was fairly inexpensive (in comparison to more recent ones anyway). It was alright, though even the lightest shade was too dark for my skin tone in winter months.

I then came across a sample of Chanel's Perfection Lumiere. I absolutely loved this foundation for a good few months, but after a while I found it made my skin look dry. Plus, once again, the lighest shade was just too dark. I still like using this foundation, but at £36 (and after repurchasing twice) I don't think I'll buy it again.

I thought I'd found my perfect foundation in the form of YSL Le Teint Touche éclat in the summer. The colour was great, the formula felt so light on the skin, and it made my skin look pretty great. Unfortunately, it seemed to break me out a bit. Initially I refused to believe it was the foundation, but after a break from using it, my skin seemed to clear up a bit. I still use this from time to time, but I just don't trust it anymore.

The Liz Earle Signature foundation is the best shade I've found for my skin so far. At £21 it was cheaper than the two foundation I'd bought previously, and I was actually really impressed with this. The coverage isn't amazing, but overall it is a really nice foundation. I just felt that something was still missing.

This leads me onto my most recent foundation. A few weeks ago, after reading extensive reviews, I purchased Laura Mercier Silk Creme. I love it. It looks wonderful when first applied, covering any blemishes and with great coverage. Sadly, I find that even with a primer, after a few hours of wear it starts to look a little cakey, something I really didn't expect. I still really like this, but it's just not perfect.

I dread to think about how much I've spent on these foundations over the year (especially since I've repurchased more than one of them). It looks as though 2013 will turn into the second year of my foundation hunt. If people have any recommendations I'd love to hear them!
